The Quest of Ages

Everyone loves a challenge. I guess that’s why by brother-in-law and I decided to set a nearly impossible goal, and I guess that’s why we are fighting as hard as we can to meet that goal. What’s the goal you ask? To watch the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie “Jingle all the Way” 50 times by Christmas. Yeah, it’s a waste of time, but it’s also a very funny movie (at least to make fun of) and we don’t have much else to do on the weekends.
The movie, which was released in 1996 hasn’t received the greatest reviews, nor has it achieved the cult status that I’m sure the producers were looking for. But I imagine that the people involved in making this film have a quiet understanding between each other of how revolutionary this film truly is. The great one-liners delivered by Ahnold and Sinbad (yes, THE Sinbad) are truly priceless and obviously were the product of spontaneous fun and not the movement of the writer’s pen.
The films tagline “Two Dads, One Toy, No Prisoners.” rings all too true for this screen gem. The delicate cat and mouse game between the two stars is nothing short of perfect. They feed off of each other in a dance of talent that spirals into the upper levels of the atmosphere.
The critics would say that this film should be called “Disappointing All the Way”, but I would in turn ask them what movie they watched. Surely their copy of Jingle all the Way was swapped for a copy of some Eric Estrada movie.
But really, this movie is crappy. But, it’s fun in its crappiness. I enjoy watching it, all 50 times. We’ve only watched it once so far, but we’ve got lots of time.
