I Know That You’ll Be There

I Know That You’ll Be There

I thought that you knew you, I thought I’d figured it all out
a self righteous man, with all my silent doubts
saved by your grace and yet I spit in your face
I worked you in my own way
Untested faith and a rock-solid heart
A God of my own making, I was wrong from the start
And the work of my hands, what my fingers had made
I worshipped the gifts you gave
I thought you would be there, and turn a blind eye to my disgrace
I thought you would be there, I didn’t think you’d put me in my place
But when it all came crashing down, it came down so hard
Everything was lost, my idols in shards
and in that very moment, I finally saw your face
You came to cover my disgrace
I knew that you were there
I knew that you were there
And so the old man is gone, completely stripped away
and everything is new, but you’re still the same
and the pain was deep your light came down and rescued me
I know that you are there
I know that you are there
And so the God of the universe, who commands the stars to shine
is reigning in Heaven, directing your footsteps and mine
calling His chosen to be holy, and to live as Christ died
willing to pay the price
I know that you are there
I know that you are there
